Module 2 of 12 · Niche, Name, Legal

Naming and branding the agency

Lesson 4 of 5 in this module · 6 min read · 9/59 overall

Your brand needs to clear exactly one bar: a business owner sees it and thinks "these people are legitimate." That is it. You are not building Nike. Do not spend three weeks here.

Naming rules that keep you out of trouble

  • Sayable and spellable. If you have to spell it on the phone, it is wrong.
  • The .com or a clean variant is available, and the name is not taken by another agency in your country. Search the trademark register for five minutes.
  • Skip your own surname unless you want the business glued to you forever.
  • Niche-flavored names ("Summit Sites for contractors") are fine and can help. Generic-but-solid names ("Northline Studio") age better if you might switch niches. Both work.

The one-page brand

You need four things, and your agent can draft all of them in an afternoon: a wordmark (typed name in a good typeface beats a bad icon), two colors plus a neutral, one typeface family, and a one-line descriptor. Put them on a single page. That page is your brand system. Resist adding to it.

Your agency site

Your own site is your first delivery rep. Build it on the same boilerplate your client sites will use, with the same structure you will sell: clear offer above the fold, proof, services with set scopes, one call to action to book a call. One page is enough to start. It should take days, not weeks, and when a prospect asks "have you built sites before," it is your first answer.

Prospects judge the burger by the bun. A fast, clean, obviously-modern agency site does more selling than any paragraph on it.

What to skip entirely

  • Business cards, brand guidelines decks, mission statements, brand archetypes.
  • Social media accounts you will not post to. Claim the handles, leave them dormant.
  • A blog, for now. Content comes later, when it supports the sales system instead of replacing it.

If you would rather have this whole layer done for you, the Agency Starter Package exists: Agency Label builds your agency site, brand identity, and SOP pack, and trains you one-on-one for the first month. It is optional. Everything in it can also be done yourself with this course.

The course is free. So is the platform.

Everything in these lessons runs on the Agency Label platform: clients, requests, the portal, reporting, invoicing, all on the free tier. Create the account when you're ready, or book a call if you want to talk through your setup or white-label delivery.
